YCKC Core Values

Our core values determine our priorities and guide our ministries. These values inspire us to action and together, distinguish our local church.

  1. We value reverence for God
We are called to worship and glorify God with our lives which is the ultimate purpose for our existence as a church (Ps 111:10; Deut 6:4-9; Matt 22:37-38). [More information]

  2. We value the lordship of Christ
We desire to express the lordship of Christ through our faith and obedience (Phil 2:9-11; Col 1:15-20).[More information]

  3. We value the empowerment of the Holy Spirit
We humbly acknowledge that without the Holy Spirit’s empowerment, nothing of value to God’s Kingdom can be accomplished (1 Cor 2:4-5; John 16:7-11; Gal 5:16, 22-25).

  4. We value making the gospel known to the lost
We are mindful that the gospel must be declared through word and deed in the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8; Lk 19:10; Matt 9:36-38; Rom 1:14-17).

  5. We value caring and unity as a grace community
We are mindful that as a people redeemed by grace, we will be a community where God’s love can be experienced (Rom 12:10; Phil 2:1-5; Heb 10:24, 25; 2 Thess 1:3).

  6. We value the authority of God’s Word
We hold God’s Word as the absolute truth and authority for life (2 Tim 3:16; Isa 66:2).

  7. We value the priority and privilege of prayer
Prayer expresses our total dependence on God and is the means by which we deepen our relationship with Him. In prayer, we praise God, express thankfulness, confess our sins, seek His help, and intercede for others (Prov 3:5-7; Lam 3:22-26; Matt 7:7-12; Col 4:2).

  8. We value spiritual growth and disciplemaking
We value spiritual growth as we walk in obedience to the Lord (Gal 5:16, 25). This will result in lives committed to spiritual reproduction (2 Tim 2:2). The Bible teaches that spiritual maturity should be a priority for all believers (Col 1:28-29; Heb 5:12-14; Eph 4:11-16).

  9. We value faithful stewardship and accountability
We acknowledge that all our resources belong to the Lord and that He has provided His church with gifts through the Holy Spirit. As stewards, we affirm that faithfulness in service pleases the Lord (Lk 12:42-48; Rom 14:13; Col 3:17; 1 Pet 4:10; 1 Cor 12:3-11).

  10. We value godly leadership
God has entrusted certain people in the church to serve as under-shepherds. These leaders submit to Christ, the Head of the Church. They guide the church by discerning God’s will, exhort the church to fulfil His mission and serve as examples to the flock (Eph 4:11-13, 5:23; 1 Thess 5:12-13; 1 Tim 3:1-13; Heb 13:17; 1 Pet 5:1-4, Acts 1:2; 13:2-4).

  11. We value God’s design for the family
God has given His blueprint for the family in His Word. The church values His design as the basis for building strong families in society (Eph 5:22-23; 6:1-4; 1 Thess 4:3-4).

  12. We value character development towards Christ-likeness
It is God’s plan for His children to “be conformed to the likeness of his Son” (Rom 8:29) and to develop Christlike character through the process of spiritual formation and renewal by the Holy Spirit (Eph 3:16-19; 1 Pet 2:21; 2 Pet 1:5-11; 3:18; Titus 3:5; Rom 15:16).
